Introduction Copy

Now, let us watch this video lesson with your child to know more insects and learn what makes an insect an insect.

Have your child name the insects and describe what they look like (e.g., butterfly, mosquito, dragonfly, bee, ant, ladybird, grasshopper).

  • What is the colour of the insects?
  • What features can you see?
  • Do you think it can fly?
  • Where does it live?

Ask your child to describe the features he/she thinks that all the insects have in common such as a head, eyes, wings, legs, and feelers.

Guide your child to notice that:

  • Insects do not have backbones.
  • Insects have three body parts which are the head, thorax, and abdomen.
  • They have three pairs of legs (six legs).
  • Most insects have two pairs of wings.
  • They have a pair of antennae (feelers) on top of their heads.
