Supporting Our Teachers

Little Scientists is designed to support teachers in effectively delivering early science education to preschool children with varied learning styles, strengths and attitudes.
Having trouble conducting the experiments? Activities did not go as planned?
Have extra time or are looking for creative ways to modify and “stretch” this lesson?
Here are tips and suggestions to support your teaching needs:
| Introduction | Pay attention and observe the children’s exploration. You can even casually talk about the what, why, and how of taking care of plants. |
| Activity 1: Flower Dissection | To enhance children’s observing skills, have them draw and doodle the parts of the flower based on what they have observed. |
| Activity 2: Flower Pollination | Since visualization is necessary for young children to fully understand a concept, you can demonstrate the process of pollination through this activity. Ask the children to draw a a picture of a flower and make sure each flower has a circular center. Next, colour the center of the flower with chalk. Then, paste all their complete flower drawings on a wall/board. Give them each a cotton ball and ask them to pretend to be bees. Line up the children and ask them to rub their cotton balls onto the center of each flower. Once everyone has taken a turn, ask them to observe what how the chalk has transferred onto the cotton ball. This is how pollen is transferred by insects such as bees. |
