Let us watch this video lesson with your child to explore different animal sounds!

Have your child name all the animals that he or she sees in the video and describe their features. What sounds do these animals make? Get your child to imitate these animals’ sounds.

  • Cow: moo-moo
  • Horse: neigh
  • Rooster: cook-a-doodle-do
  • Goat: baa baa
  • Chicken: chick chick
  • Cat: meow meow
  • Dog: woof woof
  • Duck: quack quack

Encourage your child to make the sounds of other animals.

Just like human, animals make sounds for many reasons. For example:

  • Tigers growl or roar to warn others to stay out of their territory.
  • Birds chirp to attract mates.
  • When animals are sick or injured, they will also produce sounds to tell others about their conditions.
  • Baby animals make sounds directed at their mother when they are hungry.
  • Animals like male lions make sounds when they are fighting for a female.

However, sometime the sounds produced by animals can provide important information for humans. For example, a barking dog might be providing a warning to their owners of potential danger that is surrounding them.
