Introduction

In this lesson, children will be practising counting up to 40. They will also learn to associate numbers 31 to 40 with Counting Sticks, and using Place Value House to strengthen their number sense. 

By associating numbers with counting sticks, it will help children to understand the value of numbers up to 40. We further use Place Value House to teach about place value and explain to the children that it is divided into 3 rooms which are hundreds, tens and ones. Each room represents different value of number.  Emphasise to them that they must put the number on its correct place as it can change the value. 

The Three Circles Number Bond Diagram in this topic helps us to see the relationship between the parts and the whole. It also helps us to see how many tens and ones in a number.
