Activity 2 : Ascending Order and Descending Order

Material Needed

A4 Paper and Pencil

Procedure

  1. Practise counting numbers 1 to 50 forward and backward with Number Chart 1-50. 
  2. Explain to your child the meaning of ascending and descending order. 
    • Ascending order – Numbers are arranged from the smallest to the largest.
    • Descending order – Numbers are arranged from largest to the smallest.
  3. Ask your child to continue to count the next 3 numbers followed the order that you request. For examples,
    • Point to 24 (count in ascending order), and he/she has to continue counting 25, 26, 27.
    • Point to 36 (count in descending order), and he/she has to continue counting 35, 34, 33.
  4. Repeat the steps above let your child practise counting in ascending and descending order.
  5. Fold an A4 paper into half in order to divide the paper into two columns. One is for ascending order and another one is for descending order. 
  6. Write a few number series with missing numbers as shown below.
  7. Guild your child to fill in the missing numbers according to the order.
