Activity 1: Animal Charades Copy
Can your child move like an animal? Let us play animal charades.
Materials Needed
- Minimum 2 players
How to Play?
Follow the step-by-step instructions for you to play the game with your child.
- Start the game with any player. The first player will stand in front and imitate the way an animal moves without telling other players the animal he/she is trying to imitate.
- Now, have the rest of the players will need to describe and explain the animal movement that is being demonstrated. Can they guess the name of the animal?
- The player who guesses the correct answer will get to replace the previous player standing in front. Repeat the game by imitating the movement of other animals.

Extended Activity
While playing the animal charade, you could explore with your child his or her ideas why animals move in certain ways. For example:
- Why does a snake slither instead of walking and flying?
- Why does a lion walk instead of flying?
- Why does a fish swim instead of walking?
- Why does a bird fly instead of swimming?
- Why does a crab walk instead of jumping?
- Why are some animals faster than others?
Explain and discuss with your child how body parts, habitats, and lifestyle influence the ways animals move. For example:
- A snake slithers because they have no legs and no wings (body parts).
- A fish swims because they live in water (habitat).
- A cheetah runs very fast to catch their prey (lifestyle).
