Activity: Taste Test Copy

Now, once your child had able to explain about his/her sense of taste, let’s do this activity.

Material Needed

  • Spoon Straw (from child’s student kit)
  • Taste test: Sugar, salt, vinegar, chicken stock & coffee (self-prepared)
  • Eye Cover (self-prepared)

How To Do

Let’s follow the step-by-step guide for you to do a hands-on activity with your child.

  1. Dissolve some salt, sugar, coffee, vinegar, and MSG (chicken stock) in five separate cups, filled with water.
  2. If you do not want to use chicken stock for umami taste, you can use cheese, soy sauce or tomato sauce instead.
  3. Let your child close his/her eyes with eye cover.
  4. Place a few drops of sugar solution onto your child’s spoon straw.
  5. Let your child describe the taste of the solution. Use the questions below.
  6. Repeat all the steps with the other taste.
  • How does it taste like?
  • Is it salty, sour, sweet, bitter, or umami (savoury)?
